Reseller Support

We will post basic information related to your reseller account and the server and its setup here. Before you send us mail to ask what, for example, the path to "perl" is, please always check out this page first to see if you find the answer/s here. We have also added a "Tips and Suggestions" section. If you have any suggestions for other resellers, please feel free to e-mail them and we will post them if deemed appropriate: support@1-click-web-host.com.

Where do I go to log into my Web based reseller control panel ?
https://ghzdns.net:8443/
or
https://server-4.com:8443/
or at your own domain's 8443 port: https://<YourDomain>:8443/
However, we suggest that both you and your customers use our neutral interface listed above as control panel login page, because this page has a GeoTrust SSL certificate (no security warning message).
You can also create a logon script/form directly on your own Website -- probably the most elegant solution. See "Tips and Suggestions" section below.

NOTE: Your customers can log on to their control panel immediately after you created an account for them (before their new domain or their DNS change has propagated Internet-wide). Make sure to allow them access by clicking the DOMAIN USER tab and assigning a password. They will be able to ftp their site immediately, using the shared IP and their FTP username and password. FrontPage can only be used after the domain name has propagated, not with the IP.

Script to Logon to the Plesk Control Panel Directly from Your Website: You can create a form on your Website to make the logon process to the control panel a more pleasant experience for your customers. See here for details.

Domain Name Registration: If you are building a Web hosting company or if you are a Website designer who also hosts your customer's sites, you might as well add a domain name registration service. The best offers we know about (let us know if you see better ones) are:
   directi.com
   SRSplus.com
   DotRegistrar
   Enom.com
   MrRegistrar.com

New.net Domains: Be careful ... do NOT offer the hosting of New.net domains (.shop, .inc, .love, etc.) to your customers. We do not support these, at least not at this time, because the zone files need to be modified, and this (we tried it) results in e-mail problems for other customers. You can host all ICANN domains (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .ws, .com.au, .co.uk, and so forth).

CGI-BIN: The main complaint that users of the PLESK system have always had is that the cgi-bin directory is outside of the main Web directory (httpdocs). Most other system have the cgi-bin folder inside the main folder, and many standard Perl scripts do therefore not work without changing paths in/to these scripts. This can be tiresome. We therefore enabled the server to execute cgi scripts anywhere, in any directory (you still have to set the permissions right, of course ... chmod 755, and so forth). In other words, you can, if you like, create a cgi-bin folder within the httpdocs folder to store your cgi scripts there. If you sell Web hosting accounts you might want to inform your customers about this.

Pre-installed Script: There is just one pre-installed cgi script. You will find it in the cgi-bin folder (that is, if you enable cgi scripting when setting up a domain): this is "cgiemail" – a script written in C. The cgiemail script is an alternative solution to "FormMail.pl." It is pretty simple to use ... you should be able to use it by just looking at our example: please look at the source code of our own "Contact Us" page. The content of the form is send to a TEXT file, here called "request.txt," by the following line:

<form action="http://1-Click-Web-Host.com/cgi-bin/cgiemail/request.txt" method=POST>
The "request.txt" file, however, resides in the "httpdocs" folder. In the first line of this TEXT file you determine to which e-mail address it is send then. Further info and readme text can be found at MIT's site.
Of course, you can also use Matt Wright's popular FormMail script ... more here.

Preview New Websites (whose Domain Registrations or DNS Updates Have not Resolved):
To preview an uploaded but not yet resolved domain account, exchange IP with the server IP (see your welcome letter) and ftp_username with the actual FTP username for that domain account:
    http://IP/~ftp_username

For example, if your domain's FTP username is "besthost" and you are on the ghzdns.net server (207.44.194.17), you would preview that domain acct. at:
    http://207.44.194.17/~besthost

Virus Scanning:
All servers have an anti-virus program installed. The program detects any known computer virus that is attached to an incoming message and deletes the infected message immediately. The program allows to have the receiver of an infected message notified by an automated mail. However, this has proven to be yet another useless distraction, adding to the other uninvited mails we all get daily -- so we have disabled the notification system. The program updates itself every 24 hours with the latest virus database.

Spam Protection: Please note that we have MAPS Spam protection software (rblsmtpd-0.70) installed on all servers, accessing ORDB.org's anti-spam database. There is no way to completely eliminate spam ... as with virus scanning, anti-spam protection is by no means perfect, but it still should dramatically reduce the amount of spam you and your customers would otherwise receive.

FrontPage Bug / Capitalized Domain Names: There is a FrontPage bug you should be aware of: The Plesk interface allows you to create domains that include capitalized characters ... e.g., "MyDomain.com" -- these will be functional and show up as you create them. But a bug in FrontPage avoids FrontPage to connect to any site with capitalized characters! Therefore, if you or your customers want to use FrontPage to upload files then you should not capitalize domain names. If you upload your sites with a standard FTP program this won't create any problems.

Default Home Pages: The following files are automatically detected as home pages -- in that order:
index.html index.htm index.php index.php4 index.php3 index.shtml index.asp home.html home.htm home.php home.php4 home.php3 home.asp default.html default.htm default.php default.php4 default.php3 default.asp

Space .. what counts, what not? The space taken for your (and your customer's) mailboxes and log files does not count toward the total disk space allocated to your account. You'll find very few web hosts being so generous.

Changing E-mail Passwords: You and your customers may change e-mail passwords from the domain control panel, using the MAIL tab. But you may also change email passwords following one of the links below. This solution comes in handy when you'd like to give someone control over his/her e-mail account but no access to the domain's control panel:
https://ghzdns.net:8443/cu/mailpass.html
https://server-4.com:8443/cu/mailpass.html
If you use your reseller account for a Web hosting business you can hide such URL by creating a subdomain, set it up as "Frame forward" and have it pointed to the appropriate URL listed above.

Advertising Your Site: You'll find tons of info about this issue on the Web, and you may know more about this than we do. Here just the very basics:
Yes, it makes a difference if you submit your site to search engines and directories like Yahoo! or if you don't. We strongly suggest to either buy a license for the program WebPosition Gold or to use a service that uses it - it is simply the best. But by now more and more search engines and directories, certainly all the big ones, are charging to list your site. According to our experiences it does pay out very well to invest a decent amount. The place to go is looksmart.com (covering several search engines that together make up for 70% of all searches) - click on "Submit a Site." Before you submit your site you want to make sure that all the HTML tags in the header are just right. Use mentioned WebPosition Gold or a free service offered by Scrubtheweb or NorthernWebs (go to the VERY bottom of these pages and enter your URL) - the latter one also offers a helpful Search Engine Tutorial.
In addition to search engine and directory listings you should get listed in a couple of Web hosting directories ... ad banners, however, generate little income, although they are useful to create brand name recognition.

Billing Your Customers: You may already have your own system set up ... if not, by far the best, easiest and fastest (immediate) solution is 2CheckOut.com which integrates a shopping cart (which you may not even need for Web hosting services) with a credit card processing system in one package. Except for a one time $49 setup fee there are no further monthly fees (quite different from almost all other billing services). PaySystems also offers a similar system. Also consider to add PayPal with low fees, but do not rely on PayPal alone - you might then loose prospective customers.
